I joined from tumblr a while back and remember how much of a change it was, so I have a few helpful guides and resources that will hopefully get you started. This and this are guides written specifically for people transitioning from tumblr (the second one has a few outdated bits, but still has a lot of helpful tips). One cool feature that I love taking advantage of over here is the use of multiple icons/profile-pics. You can have up to fifty, I think, with a free account and up to 150 with a paid account. Very fun way to show off fandom interests. Also, you can set the level of privacy you want on each post. And tags work differently here, but they're great for organizing your content.
